STUDENT: Natalie Sims
PUBLIC: Paul, a collector. An expert in vintage sports uniforms, and owner of several other extensive collections including pencil sharpeners, Paul enjoys sharing his own expertise, maintains resistance to participation in any 'design projects'. In response, Paul became subject of an anonymous public intervention and inspiration for a whole community of potential collectors.
PROJECT #1: Enchanted Park
Conjoining two data points shared by Paul: his pencil sharpener collection, and his daily ride through the park. Natalie enchanted the space of his daily ride with objects of personal meaning. Open to interpretation by Paul and others passing through the park, the project enters the philosophical space of trees falling in forests.
PROJECT #2: Collection Starter
Inspired by her conversations with Paul about objects and their voices, Natalie collected a series of objects that spoke to her and offered them up to potential collectors as 'collection starters'. Inserting herself into the commercial space of sidewalk vendors, Natalie struck a chord with passers-by who could hear the voices of the objects, arranged and packaged with care.
